Open markets
Piece Hall open market
Constructed in 1779 to house individual sellers of cloth pieces (hence the name Piece Hall ), commercial activities today offer a diverse mixture of goods from its colonnade shops and open market (held every Thursday and Saturday).
The open market operates in a truly magnificent setting of the central cobbled courtyard of this renowned ancient monument.
As well as the market there is an industrial museum, art gallery, tourist information centre, restaurant and a variety of Olde Worlde shops. Perfect for gift ideas, choose from collectables and crafts to continental beers and wines.
From mid November through to Christmas the famous festive Sunday market features over 100 stalls, Santa's Grotto and free family entertainment.
