Holding a market event

Applying for an Occasional Temporary Market Licence

The council can grant a temporary market licence for charitable / fundraising purposes.

To obtain a licence it is necessary to fill in an application form detailing your event, at least six weeks prior to the event. Please refer to the guidance and conditions for consent to help you to complete your application.

If your event is found not to be categorised as a market then you will not require consent and nor will a charge be levied.

The licence issued to operate an occasional temporary market in no way gives the Council's endorsement to the suitability of the intended site or the ability of the organisation to operate an event.

Please note: applicants must comply with all statutory and other legal requirements, both civil and criminal and in particular those relating to consumer goods and services, food safety, health and safety, traffic control, fire safety, planning consents and Sunday trading.
