Reserving a space at the car boot sale

Space cannot be reserved on the car boot sale and space is let each week on a 'first come - first served' basis. You are advised to attend the Halifax car boot sale, during the summer months, prior to 6.00 am and the Brighouse car boot sale at 7.00 am. If there are no supervisory staff available you should site your vehicle between the white lines of an empty parking space. Otherwise, when staff are available, you will be taken to the nearest parking space and directed into that space.

What can I sell?

The car boot sale is held mainly for the sale and display of second-hand goods and unwanted items only. All goods, therefore, must be used. The decision as to what constitutes second-hand rests with the market officers. We strictly enforce this condition and traders found to be selling other such goods without prior consent will be suspended from trading on the market until further notice.

No trader shall sell or permit to be sold knives, guns, ornamental weapons or replica guns. No trader shall sell or permit to be sold any item that contravene Copyright Design & Patents Act 1988; Trade Descriptions Act 1968; Trademarks Act 1994; Video Recordings Act 1984; and similar associated legislation.

The sale of illegal items

The Council is proud of its working relationship with West Yorkshire Trading Standards and will not permit the sale of illegal items from its car boot sale. If you are unsure or you wish to report a person selling illegal items you must contact the senior market officer on duty.

Person's found to be selling illegal items will have their details passed to both the Police and Trading Standards and will be suspended from trading immediately.
