Food business registration
Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs, Article 6(2) requires new food businesses to register with the local authority 28 days prior to starting business. For further information see
It is also a legal requirement to notify the authority of any significant change or closure of an establishment. This ensures the authority always has up-to-date information on establishments.
Some businesses need to meet higher standards if they produce meat, meat products, dairy products or fish products from the raw state (see Approved premises for food).
There is no charge for this registration.
