Caravan and camp site licences

Camping sites

If you allow your land to be used as a camping site by the public for more than 42 days consecutively - or 60 days in a year - you require a licence from your local authority.

Conditions may be attached to a licence.

There are exceptions for organisations that hold camping exemption certificates.

Eligibility criteria

There is no provision in the legislation: Public Health Act 1936|External link.

Planning permission for the site will be required prior to consideration for a licence.

Application evaluation process

When an application is made it will be deemed to be made unconditionally unless the local authority give notice that the application is refused or conditions are attached.

Fees

There is no charge to process a licence application for a camp site.

Will Tacit Consent apply?

No.
It is in the public interest that the authority must process your application before it can be granted. We will endeavour to issue a licence within 6 weeks of a completed application form being submitted.
