Cooling towers
All premises where cooling towers and evaporative condensers in Calderdale are situated must register with us under The Notification of Cooling Towers and Evaporative Condensers Regulations 1992.
The prime purpose of this is to identify potential areas that could give rise to spread of infectious disease e.g. Legionella and to ensure preventative measures are in place to eliminate the risk of such infection to employees and the public.
To register a cooling tower contact Environmental Health as above.
Skin piercing
Skin piercing activities, including tattooing and body piercing are rapidly gaining popularity. There are health risks to persons having skin piercing treatments if they are not carried out in suitable premises in a safe manner by competent operators.
The Licensing Unit within Calderdale Council registers businesses and operators undertaking tattooing, body piercing, micropigmentation (semi-permanent tattooing), acupuncture and electrolysis. As part of the registration process Operators must complete the application forms and ensure that their business is operated in line with the Codes of Practice.
Environmental Health inspect businesses involved in skin piercing to ensure that they comply with the Calderdale Council byelaws and the Codes of Practice.
Information on how to register, the byelaws and the codes of practice can be found at Licences: Acupuncture and skin piercing licences.
