Building control services

Introduction

Calderdale Building Control Services is a service provided by Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council (the Local Authority) and is located within the Regeneration and Development Directorate.

It is a publicly accountable service dedicated to maintaining the highest standards in Building Construction and ensuring that the built environment, in which we live and work, is safe and healthy. We are impartial with an objective, practical and common sense approach to Building Control.

Our mission

Our mission is to: ‘Deliver a Quality, Effective and Efficient Building Control Service’.

This ensures that the service is carried out in a way that is respectful of the interest of those who use and pay for the service, and that the service contributes to the Council's priorities of supporting and protecting the community whilst continually improving customer service.

Expert advice

We have a vast amount of knowledge of the Calderdale area, which we have gathered over many years. This enables us to give expert and impartial advice on matters relating to:

• building work such as ground conditions
• foundation design
• drainage
• fire protection
• structural design and building materials

General guidance and information is available on this web site including the facility to access details of current and historical Building Regulation applications. Additionally Building Control Surveyors at Calderdale are always able and willing to give expert advice.
