Statutory assessment
Introduction
If your child is not making the progress expected in school, the school may decide to put them on the Special Needs Register. There are various stages of assessment which consist of 'School Action' and 'School Action Plus', which are school based stages. If, following intervention at school based stages it is deemed necessary, your child may be referred for a statutory assessment to establish if he / she has special educational needs.
The local authority will only become involved with your child following a request for a Statutory Assessment by either the school or yourself.
