Educational psychology
Introduction
School staff might wish to involve a psychologist in addressing the needs of this group of pupils, for whom different approaches may need to be planned.
These might include groups of pupils who:
- are unhappy, including those with mental health difficulties
- are significantly withdrawn or quiet, including those with relationship difficulties
- are disaffected, for example by experience, economics, instability, social exclusion and so on
- are experiencing health difficulties (themselves or family members, both physical and mental health)
- are bullied or socially excluded
- are in public care
- have a transient family life and school experience
- are experiencing difficulties in attending (truanting or school-phobic)
- are reacting to bereavement and loss issue
- are associated with delinquency or drug taking
- are exceptionally gifted or talented
- have a range of special educational needs as defined in the SEN Code of Practice|

- have additional language or cultural experiences.
