Celebratory ceremonies

Naming Ceremonies

A naming ceremony is a special way of celebrating a child's birth. It also announces names and welcomes the new arrival into the family. It is a service without any religious content.

Families can choose guiding adults to pledge a unique relationship with the child. In addition, parents can make promises. These are in front of family and friends, to be as good a parent as possible.

Grandparents and other special relatives can also take part.

The family, using our options booklet, plans each ceremony. Families can personalise these by selecting poems and readings.

We also can incorporate a naming ceremony with a wedding or civil partnership.

Renewal of Vows Ceremonies

These ceremonies are intended for people who are already legally married to each other, or who have had a civil partnership ceremony. Renewal of vows ceremonies are often appropriate if the first ceremony was very small, or took place abroad, and the couple now wish to celebrate with a wider circle of friends. They are an ideal way to celebrate a special anniversary or re-affirm a couples bond after they have gone through a difficult period together

Using our options booklet, ceremonies can be personalised to include special poems and readings. There is also the option to re-dedicate wedding rings or to give new rings.

Venues

Celebratory ceremonies can take place in Calderdale Register Office. They may also take place in any venue in Calderdale that has public liability and fire insurance. However, due to the personal nature of the ceremonies, it may not be appropriate to hold them in an area open to the public.

If you are interested in a celebratory ceremony please contact the Register Office on 01422 288080.
