Going into hospital
Support and advice
If you are going in to hospital you should immediately notify the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and the Council office that deals with your claims for Housing and Council Tax Benefit. Information about the DWP can be found on its web site - Department for Work and Pensions|
.
This is important as in some cases your benefit entitlement will have to be reassessed to take account of your new circumstances. If you were not claiming any form of benefit prior to entering hospital you may now be entitled to claim.
When you come out of hospital you should notify both the Department for Work and Pensions and the Council Office that deals with your claims for Housing and Council tax Benefit.
This is important as you may need to have your benefit reassessed when you return home. You may also be entitled to other benefits if you have become disabled as a result of your illness.
To find out if the benefit you are claiming is affected by a stay in hospital or if there are any benefits that you may be entitled to please contact the Department for Work and Pensions -

- Pension Service (pension age): 0845 60 60 265.
